- Some of the Acrobat 6 SDK can be downloaded for free (don't know about
those on Distiller). You still need to create a "web account" to download
the free stuff.
- You may already have some of the documents on the Acrobat 6 CD, take a
look there. I don't have v6 yet, but I would expect Distiller command-line
parameters to be documented there.
- I think the Acrobat 5 SDK is still available, and it is (was?) free. Hope
v6 is enough backwards compatible with v5 for your needs...
More than this, sorry, I can't help.

About another printer to create PDF directly: this was PDFWriter, now
(version 6) gone if I undestood correctly. Maybe from another vendor...
However, if that "other vendor" uses a mechanism similar to Distiller
(special port/ etc, so the driver does not create PDF natively), you will
have the same problem: once you set the output port to a file, that file
will be in driver-specific format (usually PostScript), and you will need
another app to convert that format to PDF.
