      if it sits for a length of time.

I'd second that assessment, John, although a printhead cleaning routine (or two) has solved all clogging problems I've run into. 

Unless you really need all of the 3000's features (e.g., extra-wide carriage, roll paper capability, etc.) at home, you might consider eBaying the 3000 (with full disclosure, of course) and grabbing a refurb or low-mileage 1270 while you still can. For lower volume use, I think you'd be better off.
