Adobe PostScript refers to printer or RIP implementations in which the interpreter of the PostScript language (generated by the driver and/or applications) and the underlying graphics subsystem acting upon that interpreted PostScript are licensed from Adobe Systems Incorporated and incorporated into the printer or RIP by a licensed Adobe OEM partner. Adobe PostScript is fully backed Adobe Systems Incorporated and is backed by twenty years of research, development, and testing. PostScript emulation refers to implementations of PostScript interpretation and underlying graphics subsystems by third party developers based on the PostScript language specification published by Adobe. Such emulations vary significantly in quality and are not supported by Adobe. - Dov
