With CE fonts and a Danish setup characters with the PostScript names: 1) 'Ccaronsmall' (which is NOT part of the default encoding and require special encoding to work), i.e. the lowercase 'c' with a 'reversed' hat upon, 2) 'Zcaronsmall' (char code 247 in the default encoding), i.e. the lowercase 'z' with a 'reversed' hat upon does NOT behave as expected with PageMaker 6.5 and 7.0 on Windows 2000. Several reasons may apply, including bugs in PageMaker, of course. With Arial CE and Times New Roman CE, which both are TrueType fonts, the character 'Ccaronsmall' doesn't work as expected and print as 'Cgravesmall', i.e. as a lowercase 'c' with accent 'graves' upon. The character 'Zcaronsmall' works as expected with the default encoding AND with PageMaker, however. With a Type 1 font with characters placed according to codepage 1252 standards, the character 'Zcaronsmall' appear to print as a '.notdef' character, however. In some cases it appear to print a 'periodsuperior' character and in some as a 'white space' instead. I assume this behaviour is caused by a bug in PageMaker, but I don't know the internals of PageMaker well enough to tell for sure. In my previous post I forgot to mention that we actually have modified the original, licensed codepage 1252 Type 1 versions of the fonts for the mentioned three customers and created three sets of font derivates with CE, BA and CY charactersets respectively for use exclusively with a Danish Windows set-up and keyboard layout. This explain why we got it to work. Still, the 'Zcaronsmall' character as the last remaining continue to bother us with any Windows NT version newer than NT 4.0 Service pack 4 (the one that introduced support for the Euro character) even though we found a workaround by splitting the font into two and having a PageMaker script change font where needed. I haven't personally tested it, but I suspect that NOT generating the Euro character at driver level may make a difference. Might be worth a try ... Best Regards Jacob Schffer Grafikhuset
