Apple has licenced CUPS for MACOSX. Every application in MACOSX produces Postscript. Every printer in MACOSX eqally Postscript or not has a PPD. If you print over LAN fom WINDOWS to LINUX or MACOSX you can use those PPDs. It is clear that you can't use a PPD for a non-Postscript printer if you use an alone standing Windows computer. But if Quark only works with Postscript printers you need a software RIP on Windows or in the LAN.
