Finding PostScript a little confusing

I've been looking through these forums and am starting to get confused about how PostScript works. I have a client who is writing a book on a Windows XP computer with MS Word XP and a specific PostScript font. He has a publisher who will lay out the book for him, and they're probably using Macs, but he likes to see how each page will look while he writes it.

What will it take to both view the pages on the screen and print them so they look similar to what the publisher will have? Do we need a PostScript-capable printer? Or will the Adobe PS printer driver work on non-PS printers? Are there different PS printer drivers? What about PS emulation software? Oh, and a related question: will OpenType fonts look the same as PostScript fonts?

Thanks, Jared
