Hello
I am using WINDOWS XP PRO, Page Maker 7.01, Acrobat PRO 6.02.
Before I used to generate PS files by Linotronic 530 v52.3 on Windows 98SE, all ok, now we had to change the plataforms and I cant generate PS files anymore. In fact I generate them, but they do not even distille. When I disable some features it works, but it use to change some characters to symbols (like , , , , , etc). I am using linotronic 930 v.52.3. Is that any way to generate PS as I used to do on WIN98?

thanks for all

The Linotronic 930 v 52.3 PPD is for a fifteen (at least) year old PostScript Level 1 device. Windows 2000 and XP do not support PostScript Level 1 output.

Furthermore you should NEVER, repeat NEVER generate PostScript for distillation using anything other than the Acrobat Distiller PPD that comes with Acrobat. When Acrobat 6 is installed, a special PostScript printer driver instance, Adobe PDF is installed as well. Simply set the options for that driver instance to reflect your Distiller joboption requirements, print to that printer from your application, and PostScript will automatically be generated and distilled without your need to intervene. That is the way to do this, not hackery with ancient PostScript Level 1 PPDs for equally ancient devices.

Go to ghostscript.com, download and install it and read the ducumentation. Ghostscript is able to convert Poastscript Level 2 to Level 1.

The real issue was not a need for PostScript Level 1, but a misunderstanding of what is needed to generate PostScript for distillation into PDF!

The Adobe PDF PostScript printer driver instance is automatically created by the Acrobat 6 installer. It uses the Acrobat Distiller PPD, a copy of which is located in directory
X:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Distillr\Xtras where X: is the volume on which Acrobat is installed.
