Hi WindowsXP pro InDesignCS, IllustratorCS & PhotoshopCS Acrobat6 Professional We have an issue with some ai files placed into InDesign and then postscripted (with ADIST4.PPD) and then distilled with Acrobat6 'press qaulity' job options (with one minor tweek - Object Level Compression turned off/None). The problem is the ai within the viewed pdf, sometimes have characters missing (normally y and z) and sometimes characters become CAPPED in the middle of a word. For some reason selecting the text in IllustratorCS and changing the tracking to Optical helps sometimes, but not all. I have tried this post in the Acrobat and Illustrator forum, both without much responce, making me wonder if this is a postscript issue. Any comments welcome Thank you Wayne

Hi Wayne, can you please provide more info on the particular fonts used? Were these TTF, OTF, T1 or what? What is Acro6 Preflighter reporting on the fonts? Any warnings? thanks George

Hi George The document properties show Type1 fonts. Encoding:Roman. Embedded Subset. Running the 'List all potential problems' preflight, brought up. Uses CID Type 0 font Uses CID Type 0 font (font=EKBMKE+GillSans, Font type=CID font type0) Wayne

What happens if you fully embed the font? This you should be able to do from the postscript generation dialog (printer setup). Also check with Distiller settings on the same. Regards George

Same issue if I fully embed through distiller, although in document properties it still brings up one font subsetted, which is the font in the ai. I will test the saving options in Illustrator as you get the option to adjust the % of subset in an ai. Let me know if you have any other thoughts. Thanks Wayne

Wayne, To run the test (make sure you have all the fonts fully embedded in the postscript file and then adjust for the Distiller relative to it (to subset or not) as the Distiller will only distill to PDF whatever there is in the .ps file. As I can read your post, the problem is with the particular font that comes as a T1 font and as subset embedded. Do I understand it correctly? thanks George

George Sorry, should have said, the postscript was created from InDesign with fonts fully embedded, and download PPD fonts ticked. Yes, the problem I'm having is with the subset font, which must be in the ai, but I can't work out why its not fully embedding. Wayne

Wayne, You said ALL fonts are reported (?) as T1. Depending on this one (the problematic) really being a TTF there could be a reason for subset embedding it. What is this particular font? thanks George

George The font I'm having problems with inside the ai is gill sans (postscript), but this font also appears on the page (outside the ai) all fine. Wayne

I think I've found the problem. We recently had new pc's, and somehow an old version of Adobe Type Manager Lite (4.0) had been installed, which I hear doesn't work to well with XP. Its difficult to test whether this has worked 100%, as I can't re-create the problem, so I will let you know it it re-appears. Thanks for your suggestions George. Wayne
