Trying to get pdf file transferring happening between a desktop computer and a palm. Environment is Mac G5 1.8Mhz computer, heaps memory, OS 10.3.4

Acrobat Reader v 3.05 appears to install correctly, but I can never get a successful setup with the palm device. The startup window for the Palm reader programme {on the computer} comes up with a dialogue that says "To begin using your Adobe Reader for Palm OS, please place your device in its cradle and press the HotSync button". The bottom of the dialogue had a status of "Waiting for HotSync" and the two options at the bottom areοΏ½

Click OK to select files to transfer, or
Click Cancel if you device is presently unavailable.

The device I am using is a Handspring Treo 600 {allegedly compatible with Adobe Palm - and it does work with other palm software, including iSync}

No matter how many times I try, the status remains as above. Attempts to send a file only produce messages saying that the file XXXXX.pdf could not be transferred to the pdf because no compatible application could be found on that device.

Adobe Reader is in fact installed on the palm, but on trying to open a file, it fails to find any files on the palm, either in its internal memory or on the SD card.

Help please.

Further to this, I tried the same sequence on a different palm/computer combination. {One palm is never enough!} and got the same end result. This time, the environment is a DP 1.8Mhz OS-X v10.3.3 computer, 768Mb RAM running Acrobat Professional, Reader and Palm Reader v 3.05

The first stage, installing the Adobe Reader on the palm seems to work OK. Trying to use it, I still don't get any correct configuration setting on the computer that tells me it has "synchronised" with the palm.

Trying to send files to the palm goes nowhere.

I tried other palm programmes, eg one that stores images and it worked first time around as expected.

My feeling is that there is something fundamentally wrong with the communication setttings between the Adobe Palm Reader application and the palm devices. Also, if I place a pdf file in the "Download to Palm" folder in the Palm Desktop Manager programme, instead of using the Adobe Palm Reader application, I get an error, saying that the filetype I am trying to send does not have a corresponding application that can launch it. Does this mean that palm based pdf files have a different extension? If so, is there a way I can achieve this manually instead of trying to get the Adobe Palm Reader application to work?

I am having the same problems. What I thinks is happening is the application isn't installing on the Mac properly. Double clicking open the app rather than installing it. It is supposed to install an Adobe conduit, which I can't find anywhere. That's why they aren't communicating.

I found this link in the forums.
Someone else on this forum had a similar problem - check out this link:
Nancy Quist "Why is a .pdf file not the same as a tagged pdf file?" 4/6/04 6:23am
If you find the Acropalm conduit as it describes and just copy into your Palm Conduits folder, I found it all just magically works.

Yes, I did this and found it does work. Fantastic!

Also, the front screen from Acrobat Reader can now interrogate and get the characteristics of the Palm correctly.

This may also help with some other programmes that I want transferred to the palm - by installing the contuit which won't install {presumably because of permission access problems}

Thanks for the help.

I tried this as well, but it didn't work for me (details in another thread: "conduit not installed"). Did anyone try this with Palm Desktop 4.2.1?

Konrad.

Where is the Palm Conduits folder? /Library/Application Support/Palm Hotsync/conduits/?

I put it in there but its still not working, also had to correct the permissions too.
