Adobe Reader 8 Download Problems

I think I messed up while uninstalling and updating my programs . I uninstalled the update manager from my program lists. Its in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\ESD but not in my add and remove folders.

I can't download Adobe Reader 8 these two anoying messages appear: does not have a program associated with to perform this action & Create an association in the folder options control panel, error 1155. Any help with this problem so I can download Adobe Reader would be greatly appreciated.
OH...
I have adobe 7.0.8, XP Prof., and IE 7.
