Hi, I am also very concerned about this question. The new Reader 8 will not run from a copy of the installed 'Reader 8.0' folder on a CD unless it is also installed locally and even then it looks like it fails to load the 'Beyond Adobe Reader' splash page correctly if run in this way. Either it is installing files to another location as you state and checking for them and / or it is creating / setting a registry key and checking for that. I know there are programs that check what files an installer copies to disk. These two files are the only files that it writes other than into the Reader 8.0 folder? Likewise, programs can check what registry changes an installer program makes, can anyone check this? It seems that Adobe has finally broken its best feature. The issue with users using their own local copy of Reader is that some javascript such as that to hide or add menu items can only be implemented when the program starts. Since we might want to change this and that for access to our PDFs, users will not want this change to be permenant for all PDFs opened into Reader. If Adobe has now allowed for these modifications to be performed after the program has been run, and from script in a PDF rather than in the javascripts folder then it is less of an issue to me. Please can some bright spark work out what it is checking for that makes it refuse to run and / or how to hack / stop / fix this check? THANKS x
