Running Multiple Versions of Adobe Acrobat Reader?

I've read in numerous places that this can't or shouldn't be done. That's not the type of response that I'm interested in hearing on this thread.

I've already installed 4 versions using various sources:
Acrobat Reader 5.1.0.9 (from Old-Versions.net)
Acrobat Reader 6.01 (from Old-Versions.net)
Acrobat Reader 7.0.8 (from Adobe - current)
Acrobat reader 8.0.0 (from Softpedia - PreRelease)

I used the freeware program InstallRite to create 'packages' to force these to install in succession. I'm backed up with an XP Restore Point in case things go sour.

I'm at the point where I'm trying to manipulate the registry to force one version to be active at a time. InstallRite is able to generate .REG files as it watches over installation.

There has been some success. I can switch between versions 7 & 8 using the REG files (which add or modify registry entries). I think the key will be in deleting some Registry entries beforehand.

Also, by pre-running a specific version, that version will be used. I'm trying to get it to behave better than that...so that the program does not need to be pre-loaded for PDF file associations and OLE launching to work correctly.

I'm hoping to reduce my experimentation time, by identifying someone who may have already tried this. What are the 'controlling' registry keys to be concerned with? Can regsvr32 be used on various DLL or OCX components to control switching?
