EUREKA!

Thanks to Tony and all of you.

Using a little bit of advice from all, I deleted everything I could find that had "Adobe" attached to it. This included adobe items in the control panel Add/Remove programs area as well as the then empty files in the Programs section.

I then went to this site:http://adobe.authenticdownloads.com/m/

And downloaded the 7.0 reader. It will ask you if you want a lot of other Google stuff and you can leave it or remove it before the download. .PDF documents now open on their own like they are supposed to.

Amazing that I had to go to an aftermarket site to get the right software!

Good Luck All!
Hal
