Cannot launch Adobe Reader

Hello,

I cannot launch Adobe Reader by either clicking on the shortcut for the program, nor by opening an existing PDF.

There are no messages, it simply does not launch.

I am experiencing this issue with version 7.0.8. This same issue happens for version 6.0.2 or later.

The only version that seems to work is 6.0.1 or earlier.

Running WIN XP SP2.

I have tried uninstall and re-install, but it does not help.
My theory is something is wrong with a Windows registry entry value.

Any thoughts?
