Here's the situation. I'm looking through this presentation: Mitchell-ShadingInValvesSourceEngine <http://www.ati.com/developer/siggraph06/Mitchell-ShadingInValvesSourceEngine.pdf> which is 14mb on disk, of course this is in compressed form. So I'm reading through, and soon I start to notice that things are getting real slow, acrobat reader becomes unresponsive for 20 seconds at a time. I open task manager to find that acrobat reader is taking up 350mb of system ram and all of my cpu time. 350mb!!! WTF!!! It doesn't even do garbage collection! It's just a document viewer! Most 3d games don't even take that much memory. What a poorly engineered piece of crap. I have 1Gb of ram and it's freaking slow.
