I am having this same problem and have been frustrated greatly by it. From what I have found all over the net, this seems to be an error that is prevalent in a lot of newer systems installing a fresh install of Reader 7.0.8 which is what I have. I uninstalled and reinstalled Reader to no avail. It happens with IE 6.0 and the latest Firefox browser, so it is most definitely a conflict of Adobe Reader not knowing when to close and not the browsers. I went to the Adobe website and downloaded the previous version, 6.0 and then updated it to about 6.0.3. I have not experienced the problem again. If that works for other people, let me know. The only fault I have found is that the 6.0 version uses about twice the memory of the 7.0, about 40 MB compared to about 25MB. But with so much RAM in computers these days this shouldn't really be an issue. It also appears to be fully compatible with my Firefox browser.
