I have tried to upgrade to reader 7 several times, always having to go back to version 6.
Whenever I install reader 7 is does nothing. If I click on the desktop icon or try to open acrord32.exe I breifly get an hourglass icon then nothing....reader does not open. If I attempt to open a pdf, nothing happens (and windows does see that reader is the program to open a pdf file). If I attempt to open a pdf file from Internet Explorer it just hangs and crashes IE. I've checked my event logs and no errors or message about failures of reader....except and IE event when it crashes.
On Windows XP sp2. I uninstalled reader 6, run a registry cleaner to check that nothing is left over, removed any directories leftover (i.e. Program Files\Adobe, and looked for any temporary acrobat files (none)...and of course, rebooted. I've tried this with different versions of 7 (i.e. 7.0.7, 7.08). I always end up uninstalling 7 and reinstalling 6...and 6 works just fine.
After installing 7 I have run a registry check and found the following errors which I don't know if they are part of the problem or unrelated issues with the install:
Key: HKCR\acrobat\DefaultIcon
ValueName: (Default)
Value: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Acrobat\AcroRd32.exe
The file referenced (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Acrobat\AcroRd32.exe) doesn't exist.
Which is true...it should point to adobe\acrobat 7.0\reader\acrord32.exe
Key: HKCR\CLSID\{C523F39F-9C83-11D3-9094-00104BD0D535}
ValueName: AppID
Value: {8A523F4F-AB44-4477-BAB0-151E5936D144}
The AppID {8A523F4F-AB44-4477-BAB0-151E5936D144} referenced in this entry doesn't exist.
This is for AcrobatAccess Class
Any help would be really be appreciated!!!
