Nichole,

We've had similar problems with our Citrix environment ever since a core software vendor upgrade required us to upgrade from Reader 5.0.5 (which ALWAYS worked) to Reader 7. We've dutifully upgraded as each upgrade to 7 came out, and finally gave up on Adobe with the current version 7.0.8. Our specific problem has been that several times a day when users try to open a .pdf within IE, they'll get a broken object link. The workaround when that happens has been to kick every one out of Adobe, be sure all the acrord32.exe processes are ended, and then do a repair install on Reader. Real pain.

We finally gave up, uninstalled Adobe, and installed Foxit Reader (free). It ALWAYS works. You might want to consider and evaluate it. It's only lacking a bit in the fillable forms function (Foxit support says they're working on that for a future version as a high priority), but we can live with that compared to the pain of Adobe 7. I'm afraid Adobe has "improved" Reader to the point where there's just too much bloat. I wish they'd issue a business only version stripped down to the point where it would only open .pdf files and allow basic use of the fillable forms feature (like in 5), but they probably won't.

I also had a separate problem with 7 on my XP workstation. It would take about 2 minutes to load or not load at all, and when I closed it, the acrord32.exe process would hang. I could not reopen it until I killed the process, so I had to open it in the morning and leave it open all day. In my case, I uninstalled 7, then got rid of every shred of it on my hard drive and registry, then reinstalled Reader 5.0.5 (with the forms and accessability patch). Really glad I'd saved the installer files. All my problems are solved and Reader is working fine for me now.
