I have a solution now. First I uninstalled Reader 9.0 again. Then I installed an archived version of Reader 6.0.1 from this German web site: <http://de.web-blaster.org/www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=acrobat> (the default placement of the program in the Acrobat 6.0 folder is fine). Then I reinstalled Reader 9.0 and let it create its own destination folder. Now if I just open a PDF then Reader 9.0 is used. But if I create a PDF with Elements 6.0 then Reader 6.0.1 is used.
