Patrick,

You can run the extracted (a copy of the installed) Reader files from CD for versions up to but not including 8. If you run 8 from CD on a machine where V8 is not installed locally you get the message...

The application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

If anyone can fix this I would be very interested to know how.

I really don't know why Adobe do not produce a version(s) to be run from CD-ROM. Even if only to support the latest version on PC and MAC. Perhaps they expect all CD-ROM work to be done with and within Flash or Director but last time I looked, PDF & Reader integration into Flash was not good, especially if search is important to you. If you want to run Reader from CD-ROM then my suggestion is to use version 4 of Reader.

If you do get something working on CD-ROM then I would be very interested as to what solution you implement.
