Acroread hangs on Fedora Core 6

I downloaded acroread(dutch version) today 1st of February 2007.
On startup the CPU went to 100 %, but no acroread window.
The following is the case:
There is an error in the 'acroread' scipt, the function get_gtk_file_ver():

Line 418 reads:
echo $mfile| sed 's/libgtk-x11-\([0-9]*\).0.so.0.\([0-9]\)00.\([0-9]*\)\|\(.*\)/\1\2\3/g'

This is OK with gtk files of a version like libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0.200.8.

However, on my system the gtk library file is libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0.1000.8.

In order to obtain the correct version information the sed regular expression
should read:'s/libgtk-x11-\([0-9]*\).0.so.0.\([0-9]*\)00.\([0-9]*\)\|\(.*\)/\1\2\3/g'

which will show the correct version 2108

As a consequence of the fact that 'version' is empty 'len_version'
is also empty, this leads to the fact that both 'expr length $version'(line 458)
and 'expr substr "${base_version}0000000000" 1 $len_version` (line 459)
generate syntax errors.

As a consequence both 'len_version' and 'len_base_version' are empty. Because
`expr length` and `expr substr "${base_version}0000000000" 1 $len_version`
generate syntax errors the while ...do loop in lines 462-465 never
terminates.

The above correction is not sufficient, because the checks for correct
version compare in this case 2108 against the base version 2400, showing
that the actual version is less than the base version.(2108 < 2400) This may be corrected by changing 'base_version' to 2040

I think it would be better to use lib_major, lib_minor and lib_extra.
This would be more robust.
lib_major would be something like:
echo libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0.1000.8 | sed 's/libgtk-x11-\([0-9]*\).*/\1/g'
lib_minor:
echo libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0.1000.8 | sed 's/libgtk-x11-[0-9]*.0.so.0.\([0-9]*\).[0-9]*/\1/g'
and lib_extra:
echo libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0.1000.8 | sed 's/libgtk-x11-[0-9]*.0.so.0.[0-9]*.\([0-9]*\)/\1/g'

bsse_lib_major would then be 2
base_lib_minor would then be 0400 and
base_lib_extra would then be 0

Hope this helps others with a similar problem
