Trying to install Adobe Reader 8 on XP SP2, I'm getting this error:
"Error 1406.Could not write value to key
\Software\Classes\.pdf\PersistentHandler. Verify that
you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your
support personnel."
I am logged on as a Domain user who is a member of the Domain Administrators group; the Domain Administrators group is a member of the local Administrators group. So, I certainly have permissions to the Registry.
If I ignore that error, the installer reports one more error on another Registry key, also including "PersistentHandler", and after ignoring that second error the installation seems to complete and Reader 8 seems to work (including being the registered handler for .PDF files).
