Our office is currnetly experiencing a problem on multiple PCs with Reader 8 and Acrobat Updater. Our office uses "Web Inspector", an internet security tool that limits and monitors web access and logs web traffic. A user has to log into Web Inspector in order to get internet access. The problem is that if Acrobat Updator tries to run on a pc that is not currently logged into web inspector, it starts tying up system resources running in the background trying to access the update information on the intenet. After a while on not connecting, a second instance of Acrobat Updater starts, now leaving two jobs continously trying to update acrobat. I have seen as many as 10 instances of Acrobat Updater running in the background. When this many instance get running, the pc is brought slowed down to the point where it becomes unusable. To fix the problem, we have to go into Task Manager and kill all instances of the job. If I log into Web Inspector and kill any instances of Acrobat Updator that started automatically, at the end of the updates I get to a "Prefrences" button that gives me the option to disable Acrobat Updater. This option does not work. Even after offchecking the Enable option, afer a few days it runs again anyway.
