For what this is worth-don't even try to run 7.0.9. I had 7.0.8 and never had any trouble until I began the upgrade to Reader 8. Reader 8 is behaving fine on my machines. You have found part of the solution-clean out the Registry completely -Adobe Reader components only. There are a number of them, but they are easily found if one is patient. I cannot be responsible for anyone doing this as it is DANGEROUS.
As to Adobe dropping their ball-they have in this release. The problems with uninstall and install are most unusual for this product. I wonder if Linda's problem is due to something still on her machine that should be gone before a fresh install is attempted. Not only that-make sure that you are NOT running any anti-anything programs as they can interfere.
