Hi everyone,

Due to the numerous ebooks available on PDF format, I will propose you a great feature for a new release of Acrobat Reader. Could you propose some kind of storage of the information related to the last page read ?

The use case is very very frequent. I read a 500 pages ebook in PDF and it is a nightmare for me to get to the point where I were from one reading to another. Indeed the notion of bookmark does not exist within the ebook in PDF. And it would be great to add it.

For sure, this can be stored outside the PDF itself (such as the list of recent files). One great feature would also be to be able to have several bookmarks in the same huge PDF with a label for each bookmark. For some big books such as dictionaries or books with references at the end, it would be great to be able to navigate from one bookmark to another (with keyboard shortcuts would be a plus).

One comment about Adobe Reader 8. It seems to me (but I may be wrong) that we can now (in the release 8) have a cursor opened in the document. The same problem as in Word appears whereas the PDF document is supposed to be read only. The problem is the following : I begin to read the PDF with the mouse (clicking or scrolling). Then, I use the keyboard arrows. The focus is set page to the first page where the cursor was initially positionned. This is a huge navigation problem because the use of the mouse is not coherent with the use of the keyboard as it should be in a read only document (not editable). I may be wrong, but I think this is a new bug in Acrobat 8 and the behavior of the previous release was different.

Another comment also, even if I am in a 'continuous page mode', the keyboard navigation is jumping from one page to the other very brutally, which is not coherent with the mouse behavior.

PDF is a major format for online reading. Guys, please, think about users that read very big books in PDF. All the paper book 'features' should be available in Adobe Reader in the future (also the capability to write, underline, etc, some parts of the text, to take notes directly on the ebook itself just for the copy, and even if the PDF is locked. Why not thinking about a separate file such as 'name_of_the_pdf.pdfnotes' and merged at the display level ?

Huge work to do for the future...

Please use my email if you want more details about those requirements that could allow Adobe Reader to be a step ahead from the ebook readers available in the competition.
