Depending on the laptop and its memory, HDD and Operating System you need to install the version that worked before to start with. IF you are using XP SP-2 and have at least 256megs of RAM you can and should consider going to Version 8. This also assumes that with a now "clean" drive you have not installed any software firewalls, or even a full-time virus scanner for now. Version 7.0.8 should not have caused you any trouble as it was a maintenance update. Before installing run a full virus/spyware scan and insure the drive is indeed "clean" from these threats. If all goes well, then you can remove the version currently on the drive and load version 8. Just my 2 cents and good luck to you.
