Erratic Hand Tool Behavior

Hello. I am at a loss to explain some behavior I've experienced. Google was less than helpful in diagnosing the problem.

Just to get it out of the way, I am using Firefox 2.0 and Adobe Reader 7.0 on a WinXP SP2 box. The behavior occurs both in the Firefox plug-in and the stand alone reader. Here's what happens:

I will be using the hand tool to navigate the document, and a strange looking arrow appears in the hand from time to time. Should you make the mistake of clicking whilst this strange arrow is visible, it changes the zoom - very detrimental to reading said document. The arrow is intermittent, and does not show up in all documents. Even within documents where the arrow appears, it is not always present - it seems to show up over text more than blank space.

A document that I have found it in is linked here, from Rabbit Semiconductor (1.5mb): <http://www.rabbitsemiconductor.com/documentation/docs/manuals/RCM4000/RC4000UM.pdf>

Any ideas as to what is causing this, and perhaps how to stop it?

Thank you in advance.

Regards,
Eric
