I've been trying to update to Adobe Reader 9 but my laptop won't let me uninstall version 7, or install version 9 on top. Is there a way round this? I'm using an Advent 7084 running XP.

When I try to install Adobe Reader 9 I get the following message: 'Error 1714. The older version of Adobe Reader 9 cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group.' If I try to remove Adobe Reader 7 via 'Add/Remove Programs' I get this message: 'This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package.'

Try the Windows install cleanup program. Download the utility <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301>
