Does anyone know if its possible to detect whether Adobe Reader is installed from within IE ? Basically I'd like to code up a test (either in JavaScript or some other method) which runs within the users browser and detects what version of Adobe Reader they have. This test could then be used to tell them whether they need to download the Reader. I realise this may not be possible from within the browser sandbox, but IE must be able to do some basic checks when users try to launch pdf files. Thanks, Paul.

Please don't. People do try, and these forums are full of people who are the victim. Even Amazon messed it up. Either the tests go wrong, or it prevents people from downloading the PDF for later use on a different computer; or from viewing it with a product other than Adobe Reader. Aandi Inston
