I have Acrobat 6 and Reader 7 with Windows XP. Does it matter which of these is the default internet browser pdf viewer? How do I change the default?

Tony, There might be a way to set this in the Reader 7 preferences, but there may not be since Adobe doesn't recommend you have both programs on a Windows computer system. On the Mac OS there is a preference setting. On my Windows machine I have Acrobat, but not reader so I cannot say if it is possible. Mike

Thanks for your reply Mike. Surely Reader 7 being a later version is better/quicker than the Reader which comes with Acrobat 6 Standard? So why wouldn't I be able to use Reader 7 when browsing the internet and Acrobat 6 when creating pdf files? At the bottom of this issue is that I now get a warning (Adobe Acrobat 6.0 has encountered a problem and needs to close) every time I try to open a pdf on the web. I thought I would be able to resolve this simply by switching the default to Reader 7.

This is one of the drawbacks of having incompatible versions installed at the same time. You'll need to make sure Acrobat isn't running before viewing a PDF in the browser, or launch reader first, then browse.
As it is now Reader appears to be the default viewer, that's why Acrobat 6 crashes (because the browser plug-in can't load properly)

Are your photos in PDF format? What Adobe product are you refering to? Does your camera manual instruct you to use an Adobe product for transfering photos from the camera to a computer? And, how does your question relate with the ongoing discussion? For a new question, you should open a new topic.

Gloria, I think you want to use a program like Photoshop Elements <http://www.adobe.com/products/psprelements/> or Photoshop Album <http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopalbum/>. Mike

I had a major problem develop when I installed Acrobat Reader 7.08 on my machine that had Acrobat 6.0 Standard. First I was unable to pull up pdfs while in internet explorer and the second problem was that when Reader 7 loaded at startup I could see my task bar icons change colors. In particular McAfee icon would change from red to black. I uninstalled both Acrobat 6 with all updates and Reader 7. I then re-installed Reader 7 by itself. It solved both problems listed above. I no longer install Acrobat 6 Standard on any machine that I want to use Reader 7.

I have Acrobat 6.0 Pro and Reader 7.0 on my computer and am having problems with loading .APIs. I'm encounter the error that the plug-in failed to initialize. I believe this is affecting my ability to modify form in 6.0. Through my search for an answer in AdobeForums I found that the Acrobat6.0/Reader7.0 combination is "Allowed". I use Acrobat on a regular basis but I have government forms that were created in 7.0. Can anyone tell me how I fix my plug-ins? Thanks, Pat
