Updated to 7.0.7 and then 7.0.8: Now when I check for updates, Reader does not see already installed add-ins and updates (no "Reinstall" button option appears on Update screen center line bar--just the "Add" button.

Does anyone know if this is deliberate loss of functionality, or is there a registry switch, value or entry missing? Uninstalling and reinstalling full 7.0.8 does not cure the problem.

Ideas, anybody? Thanks - Jerry Porter; JeromePorterAttorney@msn.com

I have been running 4.0 & 4.05 with XP for a long time to perfection.
I made the mistake of saying yes, finally, and installed tho 7.0 reader. Now, although I have uninstalled 7.0, I cannot open my own 4.0/4.05 pdf files. I wish that I go go back to bliss. Also the new pdf's that I create do not open after creation. What To DO?

Yes. As designed.

Mark: You seem to be with Adobe--thanks for taking your time to reply. The "Reinstall" button functionality really helped me when I checked for updates or the automatic update checker launched. Now I have to remember if I have installed such things as "additional language support" and so forth.

Have you any comment about whether this "reinstall" button is available on the latest version of Acrobat? As a lawyer, I use PDF when filing documents electronically, either with the Colorado state courts or any of the federal courts (District and Court of Appeals, anyway--I've never had a case go "all the way" up to the U.S. Supreme Court, but would not be surprised if it, too, requires electronic pleading submission.

Do you have a recommendation of the lowest cost reseller of Acrobat? I have just reopened a solo practice, and the overhead of maintaining full versions of current software is staggering. For example, just check into the monthly cost of either of the two electronic law research services (Westlaw and LexisNexis). Thanks again--have a safe and enjoyable 4th. Jerry Porter

To be able to highlight an entry and have the system say "already installed," as it did before, was a wonderful feature!

Why was removing this a deliberate part of the re-design? It's illogical. It means that users of Adobe Reader have to keep some sort of manual list of what updates and add-ins are already installed. We have shocking news for you: Adobe Reader is not the only application any of us has on our systems!

Moreover, when we do not have perfect recall of what Adobe Reader updates and add-ins we have already installed, we will be overly-taxing the Adobe servers by repeatedly downloading updates that are already on our system.

The way I see it, there was no good reason to change this, and every reason to have left well enough alone, on both sides of the equation, yours and ours. You have only created extra work for your users worldwide as well as for your own systems.

Sad, but true . . . .
