Hello, I would like to call Adobe Reader from an selfmade application in order to convert automatically a specified PDF file into a specified text file. Is it possible in Adobe reader or in another adobe product. Thank you.

Adobe Reader does not have such an API. You could use Acrobat (Professional or Standard). Aandi Inston

Thank you Aandi. My purpose is to scan a specified directory with an selfmade application. Each time a new PDF file is writed to the directory, the application should automatically open the PDF file and save it to a text file to extract data's from it. Does this feature well exist in Acrobat standard ? How does it works ? With the command line ?

No, there is no such direct feature. Acrobat has an API allowing an experienced programmer to extract a list of words, which can be reassembled into text. You would have to manage your own directory watching, then text extraction process. Aandi Inston

Ok. Do you know where I can find documentation on that API ? Is it possible to test the solution of the problem with a trial version of Acrobat standard (if not possible in Acrobat reader) before buying the licence ?

>Ok. Do you know where I can find documentation on that API ? The Acrobat SDK. The full SDK is for purchase or membership of ASN (recommended) but you can freely download some of the documents. http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/acrobat/sdk/index_doc.html Text extraction is the awkward side effect of several APIs. > Is it possible to test the solution of the problem with a trial version of Acrobat standard (if not possible in Acrobat reader) before buying the licence ? Certainly not possible with Reader. There is no trial version of Acrobat Standard, but there is a trial version of Acrobat Professional. Note that if your solution used Acrobat JavaScript, you probably would need Acrobat Professional. Aandi Inston

Here's what Google uses (for Google Desktop): <http://pdftohtml.sourceforge.net/> It works quite well.
