Has Reader 9 lost the ability to view multiple PDF documents within the same instance? After a system crash and various upgrades, I am no longer able to make this work... and cannot find the appropriate Preference. Its bugging me. Any thoughts? Ken

I have the same problem. I can open any pdf, but when I try to open a second one, the program gives me this message "Adobe Reader 9.0 has stopped working A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I have removed and reinstalled the program and no change, same problem. The computer is new and all other programs function properly. Reader 9.0 is the only Adobe program I am running. The system is Vista.

Try uninstalling the program, then run the Microsoft Cleanup Tool to remove any residue. Then re-install Reader. Mike

Mike, Thanks for the help. I did it and it still didn't help. The exact same problem with the removal, cleanup, and reinstall. Paul

Can you do it as an administrative user? What about a new administrative user? Mike

Mike, I am an administrator on my machine. What are you asking? Should I create another account and try to install it? I wouldn't be interested in that since I don't want to reinstall all of my software to accomplish that. What I am thinking of is trying to find and install an earlier version. Right now, I don't know if it is a problem with my machine, Vista or Reader 9.0. Also, in the near future, I will be installing Acrobat Pro, so maybe the problem will go away. Thanks, Paul

When I open a single document it appears to be simulating MDI (e.g. there is an "X" icon in the upper right corner of the document). But there are no controls to Restore Down or Minimize. Selecting File / Open from the menu opens another instance of Reader (not a second document in the same Reader instance). Yes, I can open two instances of 9.0 and tile... but valuable screen real estate is lost because there are two menus and two icon bars. I hate to downgrade to 8.0, but that looks like my best option.
