I do this in Quark, and the way it works is I format the entire story all the same, then I go back and change the 1st paragraph to a headline. Then I check the second paragraph to see if it's a by line. If so, I change it to a by line. The way it works in Quark is you just import a Word document (or whatever), and run the script. I don't ever have to select text or the text box. Since this is used by several people, the more automated the better (if it were just me, it wouldn't make that much difference). That's why I'm trying to figure out a way to do it, so I don't have to select the text, or the story or anything. Just let InDeisgn find the first story and go to work on it. Oh, and yes, I'm in AppleScript.
