I can't compare VB to AS because I'm not a MAC user. I have learned that VB itself is not slow but any interactions with ID are very slow.

6.5 hours?? I'd be ctrl-alt-deleteing after 6.5 minutes. We've produced a TOC script (with valid sorting) and a page references script (using hyperlinks) and both are extremely slow (taking 5 to 10 minutes on an eighty page tech manual). We even had to add a progress bar to let users know the scripts hadn't just up-'n-died. The deal is though, the scripts still run rings 'round doing things manually AND they help get all our tech writers formatting documents in a similar manner. BIG plusses.
