Brian,

Don't laugh but I found Visual Basic for Dummies to be a helpful beginners' guide.

Regarding "macro programming": As I recall, this is something different in Access than VBA.

To start out, go to Forms. Click New. Click "autoform, columnar." Select a table on which to base the form. Click Okay. Form launches. Click "Design view." Select the "button tool" from the toolbox. Draw a button on the form. Right click the button. Select build event. Select "code builder." Now you're in VBA.

The autoform sets up your bound object frames for each element in your table. You can use the YourForm.YourFieldName.Value property to get the data in that field and do something with it.

As Ole suggested, you need to add the InDesign 2.0 type library as a reference to access the InDesign Object Model.

What you are trying to do, we have done. We are using VB to create the XML from an Access Queery. In InDesign, we've had to layout a template page with the frames tagged which gets duplicated X number of times (once for each product in a section). Then we import the XML into InDesign and all the frames fill up.

Ole's suggestion about using tagged text has advantages over the process described above, but it works for us.

It takes time to learn how to do this but it's great fun! And although the documentation is thin, the support from everyone here is excellent. Who needs the book when you've got the author?

Good luck!

Ben
