I don't know what platform you're using, but the following approach (in pseudocode) would work: Olav, thank you for the suggestion! I work on Windows/VB. Could you help me with some VB code? In fact, what I would like to do, would be, provided the text is set in a Multiple Master font with a width axis, and is full-justified: 1. Separate the lines in a story using hard line breaks (how can I do this? :) 2. Left-justify each line and compare the width of the text (how can I do this?) 3. Calculate the scaling factor for each line. 4. Now the difficult part: for each line, generate and register (install) an MM instance of the Multiple Master font that would fit the scaled width (how can I do this? I'd probably need to use the ATM API, but how?) 5. Assign the new MM instance to the respective line. By using such approach, I could have "well-scaled" glyphs with no stem scaling, so that the multi-composer "magic" would be preserved but also, the even colour of the page would be maintained. Adam
