I've answered my own question (it usualy happens as soon as one has committed oneself to print). In case it helps anyone else, the answer was that I was relinking a series of files in a loop, but by immediately updating each file I was changing the value of the Links collection; hence the error message. The answer is to complete the relinking loop and then update the new Links collection in a new loop. Mike
