Dave and Ole, 

I think that you've probably hit the nail on the head. However, I was using the For Each ... Next method, because I cannot work out how ID numbers its paragraphs. Using For Each Paragraph in MyParagraphs gets them in the right order, but using 

For MyParagraphCounter = 1 to MyParagraphs.Count 

Set MyParagraph = MyParagraphs.Item(MyParagraphCounter) 

results in a MyParagraph that seems to come from anywhere ID chooses. 

Sorry if I'm being stupid, but I'll get back to the day job once these scripts are out of the way.
