I would like to be able to rename an open document with a specific protocol (i.e. 5 digit job number, dash, then page range ( 54321-022-035 ) and save the document. I would like for the document to overwrite the formerly misnamed file in the process. I will use a simple dialog to acquire the job number and the script will get the page range from the layout. example: bob and lisa at walmart.indd 54321-098-099.indd any ideas?

save the current document using the new name:
app.activeDocument.save (File (newname))
Then close the document and delete the misnamed document.

Thanks, but I need to do it without the last step. We have an old plugin for pagemaker that did it. Since Indesign we haven't had a plugin or script that could pull it off. There should be a way to rename the current doc in place. Anyone else? Thanks

What difference does it make? Besides, that plug-in probably did exactly the same without showing it. Peter

Because it has to be done roughly 8500 times in the course of a day...everyday. Unfortunately this is not an exaggeration. Human error introduces a huge pain in the @$$.
