Hi Darwin FontLab or Fontographer will let you easily read the character widths Typically, they are in em units, where 1000 em units = 1 em. That is, a character 500 em units wide set in 12 point would be 6 points wide (500/1000 x 12 = 6). Also, Noah, a free PostScript font utility will let access font widths, as will the afm files which some PS fonts come with (afm files can be opned in a text editor). The afm files for most Adobe fonts are found at ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/type/win/all/afmfiles/, though you need to know the set numbers to find your way around. As for TrueType fonts, try one of the shareware font editors like Softy (though FontLab and Fontographer will handle these too). FontLab is the only font editor I know of that handles OT PS fonts, though there may be some Microsoft utilities for OT TT fonts. Cheers, Dominic
