Hello all, there is an interesting FAQ on the pages of the "Chicago Manual of Style" at: http://www.press.uchicago.edu/Misc/Chicago/cmosfaq/cmosfaq.html <http://www.press.uchicago.edu/Misc/Chicago/cmosfaq/cmosfaq.html> In the left hand side menu select "Hyphens, En Dashes, Em Dashes". Having designed some books for the Art History market, this issue of dashes has been brought up several times... I agree with Don that a minus sign should be the exact same size as a plus sign. As a matter of fact they are addition or substraction from one symbol.
