Not having tried the new italic yet I can't really comment but I recognise that the original was sometimes problematic when the roman would otherwise have been ideal. I'm very sorry to see it go though and as I say, disappointed that it couldn't at least have been retained as swash alternatives (I can't believe the new lowercase will be as suitable a companion for the swash caps). It's also going to be frustrating being obliged to carry on working with Cronos MM (wherever we're dependent on the old italic) given the benefits of OpenType in InDesign.
