When I started, type didn't come in .25 point increments. It was 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 18, 24, 30, 36, 48, 60 and 72. Occasionally a place had 7 and 42.

I seldom use any fractional sizes at all, and never about 12 point. Occasionally I might use 9.5, 10.5 or 11.5 when needed for fit.

As for making a logo, I agree to the importance of having a vector illustrator version that you can scale. Why spend a lot of time cleaning up a bitmap only to find that you now need another one, 115% the size.

I seldom have to distort fonts to match type because I have a fairly healthy font library. Only in scripts and ornamental faces is it weak.
