hello, my name is richard, i am having a terrible time trying to un-tar the apache download. i am downloading it to my windows machine then using WS_FTP to get it onto my Linux box. i am using Linux 5.1 i noticed that the file name for some reason changes from apache_1_3_9_tar.Z to apache_1_3_9_tar.tar when i download it to my windows machine. i dont know why this happens. so next i use WS_FTP to send it to my Linux box. then i try to un-tar the file and nothing happens. i can let it sit for hours and nothing. what am i doing wrong here? the tar comand line i use us like this - tar -x -v apache_1_3_9_tar.tar after entering that command i just get a blinking cursor on a new line. no output no nothing. it will just stay like that until i hit CTRL+C then i get my command line back. i have also tried this with the apache_1_3_9.tar.gz file with the same exact results except the file name is not changed when i download onto my windows machine. i am at a compleate loss here. how do i un-tar this file. nothing i do seems to work. Richard
