I am having a problem getting ppd to comunicate with my modem. I have US Robotic External 56K modem. I have PPP support in the kernal. I have setup all of the required files in the /etc/ directory. I used minicom to verify the modem was connected properly and that it would dial out. It does. I run the "tail" in a terminal window and I see: The INIT string failed and "connect script failed" The modem does not respond using pppd or when using "netconf" in Gnome. It used to work. I had set up this Linux machine a few weeks ago and had PPP working fine. It took a while to setup the first time but I think I wrote down all the steps I had taken. I was trying to figure out how to get Linux to recognize my tape drive, to back things up, when I lost a hardrive (crashed). Ironic isn't it! I have a new harddrive and had to re-install Linux. I am I missing any steps to get pppd to work. Please Help. Thank you
