Can anyone advice me on the following problems:

1. When using X Window I was unable to use CD-ROM drive and Floppy
drive. I tried to auto mount them by clicking on CDROM and Floppy icons, but
I got an error message, and saying that it had to be done manually (I have
to show a path?)
Also, I could not get the internet to work (I have dialup connection)

2. How should I install my CR-ROM drive, Floppy drive, printer and scanner?
Which application should I use to install them?

3. Can someone let me know where should I go in X Window and which drivers
use to each of them. Please let me know in step by step instructions

My computer specifications are as follows:
