KPPP Problems

Just installed Open Linux Ver2.3.
I am trying to use KDE's KPPP dialer to connect to the internet.
It is version 1.6.11(release 191).
I am receiving a connection to my ISP (Earth Link).
During the log on phase I receive the following error after several seconds:
ERROR-Timeout expired while waiting for the PPP interface to come up.

I have used KPPP in the past with my ISP and had no problems.
Anyone know what I need to do to fix this timeout problem?
