Its quite easy actually Bell, you just have to get used to it if you
are only familiar with a DOS fdisk. Type 'M' to get a list of
commands. The most commonly used commands are 'P' for print partition
table info, which gives you a run down on what partitions you have
created. 'N' is to make a new partition. Depending on what you
already have partitioned, it will ask you if you want to make an
extended or primary partition. Choose. After that it will ask you
for a beginning cylinder, usually just choose the lowest available;
then it will ask you to specify the ending cylinder or the size of the
partition. You can specify an ending cylinder, or maybe easier for
you just specify the size of the partition you desire. To make a 1
gig partition, for example type: "+1000M" without the quotation marks,
of course. That creates a 1000 megabyte partition, plus or minus a
meg or two.
You will need to mark one of your partitions as a swap space. Off the
top of my head I cant remember what to type, but type 'M' for the
command list, look for the command to change the partition flag, when
it asks you to specify it will allow you to bring up a list of
eligible partition types. Choose Linux Swap, which is 82 I believe,
dont quote me on that. That will mark the partition as swap.
When you are all done partitioning your drive, type 'V' which will
verify the partitions and give you any errors that may screw your
install up later. Ive found on LBA disks that partitions get
overlapped quite often. Ive found it helpful to keep the largest
partitions at the high end of the disk. If you have overlaps, just
delete the partitions ('D' and the drive letter, 1-4 for primary
partitions and 5-8 for logical) and repartition until you find a
working combo. Then write the table and reboot.
Hope this helps.
