pop3d daemon problems

I am having problems with the pop3d daemon from RedHat 5.1.  If my
mailserver gets too many hits, the pop3d daemon fails and the server
locks up.  (Tthere are currently 200 users on this mailserver.)

Anyone have any ideas about this.

Any help would be appreciated.
